We launched this campaign because we both worked at home during the coronavirus epidemic and we realised that we needed more help to navigate the new world of work. Sure, the zoom meetings and ‘house party’ were pretty cool at first. The early morning workouts with Joe Wicks and the kids were also good fun at the time. It was great fun working in your underpants/dressing gown at first.
Soon though, something became clear. Working from home was a whole lot different from work as usual.
It wasn’t easy to find out how to navigate this new world of work. There was nowhere to turn to and nobody was really interested in whether you had a decent internet connection, a crying baby or a tiny box room to work out of. Its was pretty lonely.
Employers were busy trying to save their business. Politicians were busy arguing about the lockdown. So, we all just got on with it.
So here we are. Less than 6 months after the start of lockdown we decided to start a new movement. Homeworkers Union was born.
We’ll be developing our charter as our supporter base grows. We will seek to evolve and define these aspirations as we progress on our journey. We are hopeful that employees, employers and influential figures within business and politics can support our charter.
Support us to support you – if you’re a homeworker – and you want to ensure your working life at home is happy, productive and secure – show your support on our social media channels.
